You are considered a “Resident Student” if the journey between your municipality of residence and the location of the course you are attending, can be made by public transport in less than 45 minutes, or if your municipality is listed in the table of municipalities considered ‘Resident’ (Table 1).

You are considered a “Commuter Student” in any of the following cases:

• the distance between your municipality of residence and the location of the course you are attending can be covered by public transport in less than 90 minutes, or your municipality is listed in the table of municipalities considered to be commuter areas (Table 2);
• the distance between your municipality of residence and the location of the course you are attending can be covered by public transport in more than 90 minutes and you have accommodation provided free of charge at or near the course location, provided that it is in one of the municipalities listed in Table 1 or 2 for at least 10 months during the relevant academic year.

You are considered a “Non Resident Student” only if you meet both of the following criteria:

• the distance between your municipality of residence and the location of the course you are attending can be covered by public transport in more than 90 minutes;
• you are living in an ER.GO hall of residence or have a paid residence in one of the municipalities listed in Tables 1 and 2 for at least 10 months during the relevant academic year.

Independent students receive a “Non Resident” student grant without having to meet the above requirements.

You are considered an independent student for ER.GO benefits only if you meet both of the following requirements:

• you have been living outside your family home for at least two years from the application submission, in a house not belonging to any of the members of your family of origin.
• you have had income from employment or similar sources, declared for tax purposes, for at least two years from the date of the submission to the ER.GO applications, amounting to no less than € 9,000 in each of those two years.

There may be a number of reasons for this:

• the journey between your municipality of residence and the location of the course you are attending can be made by public transport in under 45 minutes, or the municipality is listed in Table 1 among those considered “Resident”;
• you did not submit complete proof of domicile documentation by the deadlines as specified in the call for applications;
• you do not possess or have not submitted one or more paid tenancy agreements covering at least 10 months in the period between 1 October of the year in which the application was submitted and 30 September of the following year;
• you were allocated ER.GO accommodation but your stay lasted for less than the required 10 months during the relevant academic year (and you did not supplement this with a private rental contract covering the missing period).

There may be various reasons for this:

• the distance between your municipality of residence and the location of the course you are attending can be covered by public transport in less than 90 minutes, or is listed in Table 2 among the municipalities considered to be commuter areas;
• you have submitted one or more rent-free tenancy agreements covering at least 10 months in the period between 1 October of the year in which the application is submitted and 30 September of the following year.

No. To be considered as a Non Resident student, you must meet both of these requirements:

• the distance between your municipality of residence and the location of the course you are attending can be covered by public transport in more than 90 minutes;
• you are staying in ER.GO accommodation or have a paid residence in one of the municipalities listed in Tables 1 and 2 for at least 10 months during the academic year in question.

Please wait for a notification regarding this in your Dossier Utente. You may not need to repay any funds if the amount you have already received is less than the amount awarded.
