Get the Italian tax code
In order to submit your benefits application you need a valid Italian tax code.
What is it?
The tax code is a series of letters and numbers that allows you to be identified unambiguously.
If you are an international student with your official residence abroad, you must have it to live in Italy and access the Italian university system.
How can you get it?
The Italian tax code is issued by the Agenzia delle entrate only. As soon as you arrive in Italy you must immediately request it.
If the Consulate or the Italian Embassy in your country gives this possibility, you can request an official Italian tax code before you leave for Italy.
Otherwise, if you are not in Italy yet, you can delegate somebody you trust to submit the request form to get the Italian tax code directly at one of the offices of the Agenzia delle Entrate in Italy.
If you cannot obtain the Italian tax code before your arrival in Italy, you can generate a provisional one online.
How can you generate a correct provisional tax code?
Make sure you carefully follow the indications here below so that your tax code results to be reliable and coincide with the one that afterwards you will be given by the Revenue Office:
1. You must enter your name and surname as they are indicated in your passport
2. If you have more than one name and/or surname, please indicate all of them
3. The letters must have no accents or other graphic signs (tilde, cedilla, etc.)
4. If you cannot distinguish name and surname, enter in one of the two fields (name or surname) "XXX"
5. Correctly indicate your sex (male/female)
6. Indicate your date of birth following this order: day, month, year (DD/MM/YYYY)
7. Indicate your country of birth (not the one where you have your official residence).
What should you do if the official tax code is different from the provisional one?
Communicate your official tax code issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate to the Students Secretariat of your University. Also communicate your correct personal data so that they can modify those you had previously communicated.
Ask ER.GO to correct your personal data and your tax code using the SCRIVI service, only after changing them at your University. You cannot see your data filed in the Dossier Utente any more, until when you correct the data and the tax code you communicated to ER.GO.
After the change, you might not see any longer in your Dossier Utente the application forms and the submitted documentation. In this case, you should not fill in again the application nor submit again the documentation. All these documents are filed and can be seen in your Dossier Utente > Corrispondenza e protocollo > Documenti protocollati.
