If you have your permanent residence abroad, in order to be considered as an independent student, you must simultaneously meet the following two requirements:

1.

You must have had your permanent residence separated from that of your family of origin for the past two years from the application submission, in a house not belonging, not even in part, to any of the members of your family of origin.
For example: if you apply on 10th August 2023, you must have had your residence outside the household of origin at least from 10th August 2021.

2.

You must prove an income from working activity, fiscally declared in the country where you produced it, of at least 9000 euros per year, gross amount, for each of the two years before that of application. Incomes not deriving from work activity (for example annuities, rents, etc) cannot be considered in order to be recognized as an independent student.
For example: if you apply for benefits in 2023, you must have declared at least 9000 euros in 2022 and 9000 euros in 2021.

ATTENTION!

If you don’t meet the requirements in order to be considered an independent student, you must apply by submitting the incomes and/or assets of your household of origin.
If you are married, the incomes of your spouse will be added to yours, in order to meet the income requirement.

How to prove the residence outside the family unit of origin
First of all, you must submit a residence or a family certificate up to date to the date of benefits application. If you are registered in AIRE, you must submit a so-called “certificato storico di iscrizione” certificate of registration to AIRE Registry.
You must also submit proper documentation about the building where you have resided in the two years before the application for benefits (for example by submitting to ER.GO a rental contract, a real estate purchase contract, a free loan agreement etc, covering the whole reference period).
Finally, you must provide the personal data of your parents in order for us to make sure you don’t live in a building belonging to them, with the only exception of the case in which you live in real estate owned 100% by you.

How to document incomes
You must certify your incomes:
- with a tax return presented to the competent public authority;
- or with documentation from the private employer.
In both cases, the documents must certify the gross income for each of the two calendar years preceding the submission of the benefits application.
